Our Story
When a pandemic-induced Zillow obsession led us to a 1980s custom-built hacienda in Palm Springs, we didn't expect it to flip our renovation script. After decades of coaxing 1920s historic homes back to their Los Angeles glory, here we were, falling for a Reagan-era interpretation that charmed us with its architectural plot twists. Maybe it was inevitable – our family has always been about unexpected combinations that work perfectly together.
Like us: a Scandinavian-Scottish wanderer and a Russian-Jewish urbanite who found love and created a family through the adoption of our Mexican and Chinese daughters. Our home, like our family, defies easy categorization. Every room tells a story of cultural confluence: English country house eclecticism with its mix of global textiles and patterns - Indian block prints alongside Persian carpets and inherited pieces - meets Jewish traditions of gathering, while Mexican courtyard living blends with Chinese principles of flow and balance.
Our travels through Mexico's colonial towns, China's garden cities, and the UK's country houses aren't just passport stamps – they're pilgrimages to our daughters' heritage and our own, becoming literal blueprints for spaces that refuse to be pigeonholed. We're calling it our "Bloomsbury in the Desert" – though Virginia Woolf never had to write in triple-digit heat.
Our Vision
We're recreating the essential elements that defined our former homes but with a desert twist that honors all our cultural touchstones. Like our family, it's a story of adaptation and celebration – where different traditions don't just coexist but create something entirely new. Light plays hide-and-seek through deep-set windows, while plaster walls tell stories through their hand-troweled imperfections. Our outdoor rooms feel like secret gardens (if gardens came with misters and shade sails), which became even livelier when we rescued two Chug puppies. Chihuahua–Pug mixes Mabel and Monty, who've made themselves home in our desert oasis. Every choice we make honors both where we've come from and where we're going.
Follow our journey as we blend five cultures, two continents, and one hacienda into a home that makes perfect sense... at least to us.
